Policy Introduction

Chinese authorities allow tourists to fly drones under Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) regulations. The CAAC has issued a series of regulations for drone flight operations. Some highlights of these regulations are as follows:

Check the local aviation authority's website and review all relevant rules and regulations before flying

Do not use aircraft to drop or transport items

Operators must keep aircraft within their line of sight while flying

Do not fly at night

Always fly below the CAAC’s altitude limit (120 m)

Register your drone with the relevant local authorities before flying

Steps to follow as a new drone pilot

  • Operators must purchase third-party liability insurance for their aircraft.
  • Check for local no-fly zones before flying.
  • Minors under 18 years of age must fly aircraft under the supervision of a parent or adult guardian.
  • Operators must obtain a business license when flying aircraft for commercial purposes.
  • Keep away from airports, international borders, military areas, government institutions, power plants, transformer substations, docks, ports, railways, roads, and public gatherings.
  • Do not fly drones under the effects of medicine or alcohol.
