Policy Introduction

Swiss authorities allow tourists to fly drones under Federal Office of Civil Aviation (FOCA) regulations. FOCA has issued a series of regulations for drone flight operations. Some highlights of these regulations are as follows:

Fly below FOCA’s altitude limit of 150 m

Operators must keep aircraft within their line of sight while flying

Stay 100 m away from crowds of people

Check the local aviation authority's website and review all relevant rules and regulations before flying.

Please Note

  • Certain cantons and municipalities may observe more restrictive regulations.
  • Anyone operating a drone or model aircraft with a weight of more than 500 g is required to take out liability insurance covering the amount of at least 1 million Swiss francs to cover any damages that may be caused.
  • Do not endanger or interfere with people or animals.
