Policy Introduction

Korean authorities allow tourists to fly their drones under Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport (MOLIT) regulations. MOLIT has issued a series of regulations for drone flight operations, and some highlights of these regulations are listed below.

Steps to follow as a new drone pilot

  • Respect the privacy of others and do not film or take pictures of anyone without their expressed consent.
  • Request permission from the government before flying any aircraft weighing over 12 kg (regardless of maximum take-off weight) for commercial or non-commercial purposes.
  • Acquire a license before flying any aircraft weighing over 12 kg for commercial use. (All DJI costumer drones weight under 12 kg)
  • Read through local regulations and consult authorities before flying your drone.
  • Violations of aviation safety laws may result in fines of up to two million won.

Carry-on BaggageEach passenger can carry no more than 20 detached batteries on board. Attached batteries can be carried on board.
Checked-in BaggageDetached batteries cannot be checked in. Equipment with small attached batteries can be checked in.
